The
advancement of Information and Communication Technology and in particular the
internet, has altered the way education is being delivered.Information and
Communication Technology has very
strong effect in education and it provides enormous tools for enhancing
teaching and learning.
There have been many studies that have highlighted the various ways that Information and Communication Technology may support teaching and learning processes in a range of disciplinary fields such as the construction of new opportunities for interaction between students and knowledge; assessing information etc.
Information and Communication Technology can have a useful effect on teaching and learning if it is used under right conditions including suitable sources, training and support.
There are five important reasons for teacher to use technology in education:-
1) Motivation
2) Distinctive instructional abilities
3) Higher productivity of teachers
4) Essential skill for the information age
5) Support for new teaching techniques in order to use technology in the classroom
6) Effectively, teacher’s attitude toward technology should be positive and they should be trained in using the modern technology in the field of education.
Two Ways Teachers Can Use Technology to Help Students:-
1) Information and Communication Technology such as videos, television and multimedia computer software that combine text, sound, and colourful, moving images can be used to provide challenging and authentic content that will engage the student in the learning process.
2) Information and Communication Technology mobilizes tools for examination, calculation and analysis of information, thus proving a platform for student inquiry, analysis and construction of new information.
Conclusion:-
computers and the internet enable interactive and collaborative learning best; their full potential as educational tools will remain unrealized if they are used merely for presentation of demonstration.
Teachers can help students in utilizing their skills and practice in what they learn by using technology instead of giving all students the same assignment.
So the changes in the roles of teachers and students due to the use of information technologies in education and instruction cannot be ignored. Teacher’s roles have changed from “assignment giver and organizer” to “facilitator and supporter”. Internet provides a limitless source of information and with the array of instructional tools available.
It has the capability of enhancing and facilitating learning at all levels of education.
It may also be claimed that development of technologies leads to changes in education and instruction, and increases interest of students in school, lessons and assignments because the reflection of internet technology on education and instruction enables easier access to information resourcesand help students to comprehend the lesson better.
