The Taj Mahal, Agra, India.

The famed mausoleum complex of white domed marble of the Taj Mahal actually is an integrated complex of many structures. The construction began around 1632 and was completed in about 22 years, in 1653, employing around 20,000 artisans and craftsmen throughout the empire. The construction was entrusted to a board of architects, the chief architect probably being Ustad Ahmad Lahauri.'
According to our Indian guide on our tour in India and  there is a sad story connected to the Taj Mahal, at least to me. Shah Jahan build the building to hold the bodies of his diseased [favorite] wife and himself after he died. However, before he died, the Shah's son took control of the government and imprisoned his father and would not allow his father to even visit the tomb during the last few years of his life.

As we did, he could view the Taj Mahal from about a mile away, from the building in which Shah Jahan was imprisoned.
